The Old Bar

The Old Bar

Thanks for the post, Vernon Lowe

There’s nothing like having a great watering hold in town that you love and I should know. I’m pretty much a sports fanatic and I’ve spent more than my fair share of Saturdays in a dark bar watching this game or that game. When my favorite place up the road succumbed to the economy earlier this year I had just had it – something had to be done. I went to http://DirectStarTV.com and signed myself up for satellite and started immediately on converting the basement into my very own sports room. My wife was surprisingly supportive and my buddies think it’s a great idea…they’ve even volunteered to chip in and help me buy a kegerator! I love knowing that this year the games are all going to be at my house and who knows how much money I’m going to save by not spending it all in a restaurant. I’m really a homebody at heart so it’s no surprise to anyone who knows me that it’s come to this point!

My daughter, my hero

My daughter, my hero

The Author of this post is Solomon Dejesus

My daughter was born with a hearing anomaly, so she has a lot of trouble carrying on casual conversations. When she was younger, it was a major source of stress for my family, but since then we've found a number of great hearing solutions that are helping her live a normal life. I still like to do periodic research at http://hearingaids.miracle-ear.com/hearing-locations/california/c/camarillo/ to see if there are any new technologies out that we should take advantage of, but in general, she's really happy with her traditional hearing aid. My advice to other parents in this situation is to take your child to a doctor to rule out any medical complications then make an appointment for a free hearing test. You got nothing to lose and there are so many high-tech solutions out there it's a shame to let your child go through life hearing impaired. Her friends have been really accepting and we spoke to her teacher about exactly what to say if she ever gets made fun of… Knock on wood, but that still hasn't happened yet! My kids are the most important thing in the world to me and when they are happy, I'm happy. My daughter’s the happiest she's ever been, which makes me feel like I'm doing a good job as a mom!
